Frequently asked questions
General
What is the cost and what do I receive?
There is a £20 per person entry fee, which covers all expenses and refreshments. Registrations open on Friday 30 September, and close on Thursday 2 March at 9am. It may be possible to sign up on the night, but ‘on the day’ entry places are very limited. We still ask that you try to raise the minimum suggested amount of sponsorship. There is no guarantee of bunny ears or medal if you sign up on the day.
Included in your registration fee:
Confirmation email containing: route map, memory card and downloadable sponsorship form. Should you need paper copies, please email GirlsNightOut@stnh.org.uk
Bunny ears
On the night refreshments and entertainment along the routes
Medal, cake and hot drink on completion of the walk
What is the minimum age of walkers?
The minimum age for participants is 14. There is no upper age limit. Walkers under 18 years of age must ensure the consent section is signed by a parent or guardian and are accompanied by an adult walker over the age of 18.
Raising money
This is an expensive event to run, but is important to the hospice and our community. Through corporate sponsorship, the registration fee, and our Girls Night Out walkers fundraising for us, we would typically expect to be able to raise £200,000 after our costs which is much needed to allow us to continue supporting our community with death, dying and grief.
We traditionally have asked walkers to each try to raise a minimum of £100, and often they are very successful.
The last two years, through the pandemic has had a real impact on the Hospice, and our fundraising activities. Last year we were delighted to raised £124,368, and hope to beat this amount in 2022.
Once you receive your confirmation pack, we suggest you setting up a JustGiving page to promote your pyjama walk to your friends, family and loved ones. If you need a downloadable sponsorship form, we will happily send you one.
What happens on the night?
On the day we will email you a link to register your attendance. We ask walkers to arrive at Angel Hill from 6pm, there will be music and entertainment from the stage, our memory minute and a Zumba warm up. The walk will start at 6.30pm and we aim for you to finish by 11pm.
Once you all set off on your 6 or 11.2 mile distance, along the route there will be refreshment stops and loos. We suggest that you bring your own water bottle which can be refilled along the walk. Once you have completed your walk, please head to the Athenaeum, where you will receive your medal, cake and hot drink.
To keep everybody involved in Girls Night Out as safe as possible, we aim for everyone to finish by 11pm. There will be a ‘quick finish’ route at approximately mile 8 – the Southgate roundabout for the 11.2 mile walkers who are unlikely to reach the finish line by this deadline.
Can I bring my dog?
Only guide dogs are accepted on Girls Night Out; no other pets or animals are permitted to accompany walkers or marshals.
Where can I park?
With thanks to West Suffolk Council, we have arranged for Ram Meadow car park (Cotton Lane, IP33 1XP) to be open for the duration of the event. These are free of charge for all walkers and volunteers. Should you need to park in an alternative public car park you will have to pay the relevant charges.
Rescheduled date
Following our decision to postpone Girls Night Out on Saturday 10 September 2022, we are pleased to announce a rescheduled date, Saturday 4 March 2023.
I’ve already registered, what are my options?
For all registered walkers, we have contacted via email and offered three options, to attend the new date on Saturday, to take on the mileage in their own time, or to donate their entry fee to St Nicholas Hospice Care.
Can I get a refund of my entry fee?
We would like to encourage as many walkers as possible to join us on Saturday 4 March 2023. We rely on the support of our amazing fundraisers to be able to continue our work of the Hospice at our Main Site, and out in the Community.
However, we fully understand that you may not be able to make a new date and we will of course be happy to offer a refund, please contact GirlsNightOut@stnh.org.uk to discuss your options.
If you do require a refund of your entry fee, we ask that you contact your sponsors regarding their donations, and if needed refunds to be issued.
I’d like to do the walk in my own time, how does this work?
If it’s not possible for you to attend the rescheduled event, we love that you still want to walk the distance in your own time. Please be aware that we would not be able to offer any on-the-day support and would encourage you to take all sensible measures in terms of appropriate clothing and footwear, carrying water, and having an emergency contact in place. Once you have completed your distance of 6 miles or 11.2, please do contact us, and we will happily provide you a medal for your efforts!
I already have some cash received, how is best to pay it to you?
If you already have some cash received from your sponsors, you can pay this in via our website: https://stnicholashospice.org.uk/contact-us/pay-in-your-fundraising/
I have a question, who can I contact?
Please get in touch with the Girls Night Out Team on GirlsNightOut@stnh.org.uk or by calling 01284 766133.
Thank you for your support and understanding, they are hugely appreciated by the whole St Nicholas Hospice Care team.
